Traders, Transporters in Surat Protest Toll Charges for Locals at Kamrej

Surat: The local traders and transporters held a meeting in Kim to protest the provision of toll tax collection from locals at Kamrej toll plaza on the national highway in Surat district.

Daily, thousands of local vehicles from Kamrej, Umarpada, Mangrol, Palsana, Choryashi, Bardoli, Mandvi, Olpad, and Surat city pass through Kamrej toll plaza. The locals had demanded in the year 2019 that the local passing vehicles must not attract toll payment. Following this representation, an announcement was made for the waiver of toll collection for local vehicles. However, later, the government introduced the Fastag system for toll collection and all lanes of Kamrej toll plaza were put under Fastag, due to which toll charges are cut from the Fastag balance of even local vehicles.

The locals, including Sarpanchs, transporters, farmer leaders, and traders, held a meeting and decided to approach the district collector again, demanding two lanes for local vehicles at Kamrej toll plaza without the Fastag system. DeshGujarat
