Kankariya Carnival 2024 Canceled, Ahmedabad Flower Show Postponed

Ahmedabad: A seven-day period of national mourning has been declared following the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who died on Thursday night at the age of 92 at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi. In light of this, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced the cancellation of the Kankaria Carnival 2024. Additionally, the dates for the upcoming Flower Show, originally scheduled to begin on January 1, have been revised.

The carnival, which was scheduled to run until December 31, will remain closed, and no events will be held as a gesture of respect during the national mourning period. However, free entry to the Kankaria Lake Front premises will continue. The Flower Show at the Sabarmati Riverfront, initially set to open on January 1, will now begin on January 3. The inauguration of the event by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has also been rescheduled.

The civic body announced the decision in a tweet that said, ‘Due to the sad demise of the former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, all cultural programs of the Kankaria Carnival 2024, scheduled from December 27, 2024, to December 31, 2024, have been canceled. However, free entry to the Kankaria Lake Front premises will continue.’

The Centre has announced a seven-day state mourning across the country. During this time, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast at all locations where it is customarily displayed, and all official entertainment will be suspended. DeshGujarat
