January 04, 2025
Nadiad: The Nadiad Municipal Corporation is set to demolish 46 shops built on a drain channel near the Sardar Patel Statue in the bus-stand area. These shops have been declared structurally unsound and dangerous as per the report by the expert team of Birla Vishwakarma Mahavidhyalaya roped in by the local administration.
The shops (ground plus one) were constructed in 1960 over a covered drainage channel for rainwater. However, they were later rented out for commercial purposes. The Municipal Corporation issued notices to the shopkeepers to vacate the premises, citing safety concerns and also for the reason that due to these shops, the drain water channel couldnb’t be cleaned properly, resulting into water logging in local area. The shopkeepers challenged these notices in the High Court, but the court ruled in favor of the Corporation. The shops are in a dilapidated condition.
The Corporation has now been given the green light to proceed with the demolition. The exact date of the demolition is yet to be announced.DeshGujarat
