IT dept conducts searches at 15 locations in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The Income Tax department carried out searches at around 15 locations in the city on Friday. The searches involved premises linked to Kamlesh Shah and his partners. The accused are under investigation for attempting to claim cash seized by the Income Tax department in multiple states.
In the latest development, the search operation that entered its second day today has led the IT department to confiscate around ₹4 crore in cash from Kamlesh Shah’s bungalow. Additionally, jewelry worth ₹1 crore has also been seized at locations linked to Kamlesh Shah’s partners. It is learned that 10 bank lockers have been seized, and the searches are likely to continue for another day, with more benami transactions expected to come to light.
Searches were conducted at 15 locations in Ahmedabad, including their homes and offices. These searches took place at their residences in Science City and Pragatinagar, as well as their offices on CG Road and Manek Chowk, sources said.
It is learned that the accused have been involved in several cases across cities like Chennai, Ranchi, Mumbai, and Khandwa, where they allegedly staked claims to cash seized in IT and other government raids. Multiple inquiries are being conducted against them.
Kamlesh Shah, Khushboo Shah, and Ninnad Shah, along with Gaurang Panchal, Ramesh Thakkar, and two others, are likely to be interrogated in connection with suspicions of large benami transactions.
The Income Tax department is investigating the details of these cases, including the sources of income and financial transactions. Evidence from digital and paper trails is also being examined.
