Heavy vehicles banned on Narmada Maiya bridge in Bharuch for 3 months
February 05, 2025
Bharuch: In response to a surge in accidents involving heavy vehicles on the newly constructed Narmada Maiya Bridge, the Bharuch District Magistrate has announced a three-month ban on the movement of heavy and extra-heavy vehicles on the bridge. The ban will be in effect from February 5th to May 4th, 2025.
The decision comes after numerous complaints from citizens, supported by video and photographic evidence, highlighting the increasing number of accidents caused by heavy vehicles, such as private buses and trucks, traversing the bridge, especially at night.
While the bridge was intended to alleviate traffic congestion, the rise in accidents involving heavy vehicles has become a major concern. The bridge connects Bharuch and Ankleshwar, vital cities for daily commuters, businesspersons, and the general public. The area surrounding the bridge also houses significant establishments such as hotels, complexes, malls, colleges, and a bus station, further amplifying the risk associated with heavy vehicle traffic.
Exemptions have been made for emergency service vehicles, including ambulances and fire trucks, as well as state transport (GSRTC) buses.
The District Magistrate’s order aims to ensure the safety of all commuters and reduce the risk of accidents on the Narmada Maiya Bridge. Authorities will be monitoring the situation closely and reviewing the ban after the three-month period. DeshGujarat
