February 06, 2025
Surat: The people of the Diamond City, Surat, are likely to witness the recently commissioned Indian Navy destroyer, INS Surat, in their city. The naval ship, named after Surat, is expected to be stationed at Hazira and will be accessible to visitors. The Indian Navy conveyed this plan in a letter to Vijay Mevawala, President of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI).
Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, informed SGCCI that the ship would be available for a visit between February 7 and 14 and will be stationed at Hazira as a ‘Ship Open to Visitors.’ The letter stated that the vessel is currently engaged in operational activities, but the Navy looks forward to INS Surat’s maiden visit to its namesake city. Meanwhile, the Chamber has already replied, proposing February 7 or any other date convenient for the Navy.
INS Surat was officially commissioned into service by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 15. Prior to that, on January 3, SGCCI had requested the Indian Navy to arrange a visit for INS Surat. DeshGujarat
