Four history-sheeters held for attacking police constables in Surat

Surat: The police arrested four individuals for allegedly assaulting two constables from Salabatpura police station after they stopped their rickshaw for a routine check early Tuesday. Out of these four history-sheeters, two were nabbed in Surat, while the other two were caught in a joint operation with Vadodara police after fleeing to Vadodara to evade arrest.

The attack took place in the Bhathena area when constables Punjabhai and Bhupendrabhai tried to stop the rickshaw. After fleeing toward Athwalines, the accused got down from the vehicle and attacked the cops with sharp weapons before escaping. Later, CCTV footage of the incident went viral, prompting the Salabatpura police to initiate a probe.

According to the police, all four were under the influence of narcotic tablets during the attack. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-4) Vijaysingh Gurjar stated that Mohammad Tufel Hanif Shaikh (30) and Hanif alias Monu Shaikh (24) were arrested in Vadodara, while Abdul Sahil Shaikh (28) and Nitin alias Langdo Jadav were caught in Surat.
