Gujarat govt to set up Vahivati Sudharana Panch for improvement in governance

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government will form the Gujarat Vahivati Sudharana Panch (Gujarat Administrative Reforms Commission) for improvement in governance. This announcement was made by Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai today in his budget speech.

Desai said the proposed body will work to improve the administrative structure and working pattern of the government by improving efficiency through streamlined human resources and new technology.

He said that retired IAS officer Dr. Hasmukh Adhia will head this body. Adhia is currently working in the Chief Minister’s Office in the state capital.

This commission, headed by Hasmukh Adhia as the Chairman, will also have a five-member committee that will include the Chief Secretary; Additional Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary/Secretary (Personnel Division), General Administration Department (GAD); Additional Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary/Secretary, Science and Technology Department; Additional Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary/Secretary, Finance Department; and Additional Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary/Secretary (Administrative Reforms, Training Division, and NRIs), GAD, who will serve as the Member Secretary.

The Gujarat Administrative Reforms Commission will study and assess the administrative and governance structure, rationalization of manpower and human resource management, financial management and resource optimization, decentralization and local governance, use of technology and innovation, and monitoring and evaluation frameworks before submitting its recommendations to the government.
