Surat: The Special Operation Group of Surat Police has arrested five office-bearers of NSUI (National Students’ Union of India), the student wing of the Congress party, in an extortion case. The accused had allegedly demanded Rs. 1 crore from Red & White Multimedia Institute in Surat.
As per details, the NSUI activists held a press conference in Surat a month ago, alleging that the Red & White Multimedia Institute was bogus. Later, they demanded a ransom of Rs. 1 crore from the institute to prevent further defamation. Eventually, they agreed to take Rs. 60 lakh and forcibly took Rs. 1.5 lakh from the institute’s management. On Thursday, when the accused arrived to collect Rs. 5 lakh, the institute set up a sting operation, capturing them on camera. Based on this evidence, the police arrested these accused.
The arrested accused have been identified as Surat City NSUI President Dhirendrasinh Solanki, City Vice President Mitesh Hadia, Ravi Pusadiya, Preet Chavda, and Tushar Makwana. Additionally, Abhishek Chauhan and Kishoresinh Dabhi have been declared wanted. Notably, a sting video of them accepting money was recorded and has been submitted as evidence.
Briefing the media about the case, DCP Rajdeep Singh Nakum stated that the Red & White Institute operates within the Saroli police station limits. The individuals running the institute were collaborating with the university and admitting students. The accused had earlier held a press conference, claiming that the institute was issuing bogus university degrees. They had also involved the media, created Instagram reels against the institute, and widely publicized the allegations. Later, they demanded Rs. 1 crore, threatening legal trouble punishable by over ten years in prison. They also claimed to have influential connections and photos with various people.
Eventually, the institute’s management agreed to pay Rs. 60 lakh. The accused forcibly took Rs. 1.50 lakh, and on 20/02/2025, when they arrived to collect another Rs. 5 lakh, they were caught red-handed. DeshGujarat
