Shortage of Primary Teachers in remote Talukas; Poshina – 180, Una – 158, Gir Gadhda – 115

Gandhinagar: There’s a massive shortage of primary teachers in Gujarat’s northernmost taluka, namely Poshina in Sabarkantha district.

Poshina taluka, which is tribal-populated, least connected, and located in a remote inter-state border area, has a shortage of 180 primary teachers, as per the government’s reply in the State Assembly in response to a question asked by the opposition Congress MLA.

The shortfall of 180 primary teachers in this small taluka is for the last six months. Other talukas like Himmatnagar, Idar, Prantij, and Talod have a shortage of only 1 teacher each. There’s a shortage of 2 teachers in Vadali, 5 teachers in Vijaynagar, and 6 teachers in Khedbrahma taluka.

The state government, in its reply, further informed that five schools are operated with a single teacher each.

In another reply to a separate question asked by the Congress MLA, the state government replied that Una taluka in Gir Somnath district had a shortage of 158 primary teachers, while Gir Gadhda taluka had a shortage of 115 primary teachers for classes 1 to 5.

The state government further informed that Gyan Sayahaks are appointed on a contract basis to counter the shortfall. Additionally, the recruitment of 13,852 Vidhya Sahayaks is underway.DeshGujarat
