Several ongoing flyover projects in Ahmedabad face delays in completion
March 20, 2025
Ahmedabad: Authorities are building bridges in the city to ensure smooth traffic flow, but several ongoing projects have exceeded their completion deadlines, causing significant inconvenience to commuters. Given the slow progress, it may take a few more years before these projects are completed, stated a new report.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is constructing nine flyovers and one underpass, all of which remain behind schedule.
The Pallav Junction flyover, planned over the 132-foot ring road, was approved on April 1, 2021, with a March 2024 deadline. The project, carried out by Ajay Eng Infra Pvt. Ltd., has faced persistent delays, leading AMC to issue two notices to the contractor in April 2023. Despite this, the project remains unfinished, with 5% of the work still pending. Officials expect it to open in the coming months.
Similarly, Ahmedabad’s longest proposed flyover, spanning 2.5 km from Naroda Patiya to Galaxy Junction, is also facing setbacks. Although AMC approved the project in August 2021, work only began on July 17, 2023, almost two years later. With current progress at 40%, the project is unlikely to meet its 36-month deadline.
The railway overbridge connecting Makarba to SG Road, which started on September 30, 2022, with a 26-month deadline, also remains incomplete, adding to commuters’ woes.
Meanwhile, the repair and rehabilitation project for Ellisbridge, which began in September 2024 with a 12-month deadline, has seen only 26% completion so far.
Other flyovers facing slow progress include Hebatpur Railway Crossing overbridge, Vadaj Junction flyover, Buthbhavani Railway Crossing overbridge, Sattadhar Intersection flyover, Panjrapole Junction flyover, and Vandematram Railway Underpass.
Officials attribute these delays to issues such as underground utility relocations, land acquisition problems, legal disputes, and AMC’s lack of planning and coordination. DeshGujarat
