Gates of Machhu-2 Dam opened for repair; 29 villages on alert

Morbi: The administration has begun repair work on Machhu-2 Dam in Morbi. After receiving the green light from the government, two gates of the dam were opened at 4 PM today by two feet. Water is being released in phases, starting from 1,300 cusecs and increasing up to 3,500 cusecs. A total of 20 villages in Morbi taluka and 9 villages in Maliya taluka have been alerted.

According to officials from the Machhu-2 Irrigation Sub-Division, to carry out the repair and replacement of the gates near Machhu-2 Dam, two gates were opened by two feet, releasing 1,300 cusecs of water. The water flow will be gradually increased in phases up to 3,500 cusecs. Additionally, residents of downstream villages in Morbi and Maliya Miyana talukas have been warned not to enter the riverbed.

Due to the water release from Machhu-2 Dam, residents of 29 villages have been alerted.

In Morbi taluka, the following villages have been placed on alert: Jodhapar, Lilapar, Bhadiyad, Timbdi, Dharampur, Ravapar, Amreli, Vanaliya, Gor Khijdia, Mansar, Nava Sadulka, Juna Sadulka, Ravapar, Gungan, Naranka, Bahadurgarh, Juna Nagdavas, Nava Nagdavas, Sokhda, and Amarnagar.

In Maliya taluka, the villages on alert include: Virparda, Derala, Navagam, Medhapar, Haripar, Mahendragarh, Fatepur, Songadh, and Maliya (Mi). Residents have been instructed to exercise caution and avoid crossing the riverbed.
