IAF Jaguar fighter jet crashes near Jamnagar

Jamnagar: An Indian Air Force (IAF) Jaguar fighter jet crashed near Jamnagar Air Force Station on Wednesday night, confirmed Superintendent of Police (SP) Premsukh Delu. The aircraft carried two trainee pilots, one of whom ejected safely and was rushed to a nearby hospital, while the other pilot is feared dead.

The crash, followed by a fire, occurred in an open field near Suvarda village, around 12 kilometers away from Jamnagar city, causing no significant damage to property. Villagers were the first responders, quickly gathering at the crash site. Local police and emergency authorities are on the scene, assisting with rescue operations. As per primary reports, the aircraft stationed at Jamnagar IAF station, used for ground and maritime operations, was on a training sortie. The reason for the crash remains unknown for now.

Ketan Thakkar, Collector of Jamnagar, told media, “An aircraft of the Air Force has crashed in the district of Jamnagar. One pilot has been rescued and shifted to the hospital. The fire team is present at the spot and has doused the fire. The Air Force team, fire team, police, and other teams are present here for the rescue. The civilian area has not been affected as the plane crashed in an open ground.”

Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani reacted to the crash in an X post and said, “A Jaguar fighter aircraft crashes in Jamnagar, Gujarat as per news reports. Kudos to the locals who immediately responded and reached to assist the Pilot.” DeshGujarat
