Rajkot artisan crafts special turban to honor PM Modi’s 75th birthday

Rajkot: A skilled artisan from the city, renowned for crafting looped turbans, has created a unique turban as a tribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In celebration of the PM’s 75th birthday later this year, the turban has been made using 75 meters of cloth. Additionally, marking 10 years of Modi’s tenure, the turban’s width has been set at 10 feet. It also stands 16 inches high, signifying that he is India’s 16th Prime Minister, and weighs 25 kg.

Sanjaybhai Jethwa, the owner of Sanjayraj Turban in Rajkot’s Bajrangwadi area, handcrafted this special turban out of deep admiration for the Prime Minister. He noted that very few artisans in Rajkot specialize in making looped turbans, and he is among them. “Crafting such turbans is highly intricate, but I have mastered the skill over the past 10 years. Out of my respect for PM Modi, I, along with five other craftsmen, worked tirelessly for five days and nights to complete this masterpiece,” he said.

Elaborating on the turban’s design, Jethwa reiterated that its 75-meter length represents Modi’s age, its 10-foot width marks his decade-long leadership, and its 16-inch height symbolizes his position as India’s 16th Prime Minister. The turban weighs 25 kg, with the fabric alone costing ₹7,500, while the total expenditure, including other materials, reached ₹11,000.

A devoted admirer of PM Modi, Jethwa personally funded and meticulously crafted the turban. He wishes to present it to the Prime Minister himself but currently has no means of delivering it. He hopes to coordinate with local BJP leaders when Modi visits Rajkot. Until then, he plans to keep the turban on display at his shop.

Jethwa, a Shiv devotee, previously crafted a special turban with 45 rings using 15 meters of cloth for Lord Bholanath, which he offered at the Ishwariya Mahadev Temple in Rajkot. Inspired by that experience, he later conceived the idea of making a turban for PM Modi. However, it took him time to raise funds for the project before bringing his vision to life. DeshGujarat
