Gujarat CM OKays ₹606.34 crore for STP, drainage, and water projects of GMC
April 04, 2025
Gandhinagar: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has given in-principle approval to allocate ₹606.34 crore to the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation from the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Urban Development Scheme for the construction of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and associated wastewater management works, a rainwater drainage network, and water distribution stations.
Of this amount, ₹245 crore will be allocated for the Jaspur STP and its associated works, while ₹361.34 crore will fund similar projects in newly incorporated villages and TP areas following the expansion of the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation.
Currently, around 60 MLD of drainage water from sectors 1 to 30 and the villages of Borij, Palaj, Basan, Dholakuva, Indroda, Adivada, and Gokulpura is collected at the Sargasan pumping station and treated through the main line at the 76 MLD capacity STP in Jaspur.
Due to the expansion of the municipal corporation, rising population density, and increased water consumption, an additional 22 MLD of water is sent from Sargasan to the Jaspur drainage line. Additionally, 27 MLD of drainage water from certain TP areas, Khoraj village, and the Guda area is pumped from the Adalaj pumping station to the Jaspur STP line.
As a result, against Jaspur STP’s capacity of 75 MLD, it is currently handling 109 MLD of drainage water.
The excess inflow has led to the overflow of the main inlet and outlet lines at Jaspur STP, Adani Campus, Khoraj village, and Adalaj Trimandir Clover Leaf, causing sewage water to backflow into rural areas, fields, and roads. This not only creates inconvenience but also increases the risk of waterborne diseases.
With this in-principle approval, work will now begin on replacing the 11-kilometer, more than 20-year-old gravity main line from Sargasan to Jaspur. DeshGujarat
