Matter launches India’s first geared electric bike facility in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the country’s first geared electric motorbike plant, established by Matter, at Changodar in Ahmedabad on Friday.

The Chief Minister also took a detailed tour of the facility and was presented with an electric motorbike. One bike each was also gifted to the Gujarat Police Department and Gir Forest Rangers. Matter’s new next-generation plant will manufacture 1.2 lakh electric bikes annually under the Make in India and Innovative India initiatives.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said the state government is committed to making Gujarat the leading hub for green energy in India.

Extending his greetings on the occasion of Chaitri Navratri-Durgashtami, the Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has become the world’s fifth-largest economy and has recorded a 12% growth in the automobile sector. “Today, India’s automotive industry is prepared to compete at the global level,” he noted.

Highlighting the PM’s vision, Patel said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the mantra of ‘Innovate in India’ to boost green energy growth. To support this vision, Matter Company has inaugurated the country’s first geared electric motorbike plant today.”

The Chief Minister emphasized that the Prime Minister has prioritized renewable energy through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance. He added that India’s green energy capacity has increased from 2.8 GW to 102.5 GW in the last 10 years, with wind energy production nearly doubling.

He noted the success of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, stating that more than 11 lakh households across the country have installed solar panels, increasing solar-based power generation capacity from 9 GW to 98 GW.

He also mentioned that Rs 2,240 crore has been allocated for the production of 4.5 lakh tonnes of green hydrogen, positioning India to become the world’s third-largest renewable energy producer.

Discussing the rise in electric vehicles, the CM said that EV sales have grown 640 times in the last decade, with 17 lakh EVs sold last year alone. Under Gujarat’s EV Policy-2021, the state is actively promoting EV infrastructure and the production of lithium-ion batteries.

He further said that nearly 800 EV buses are currently operating in the state’s public transport system, and 2.64 lakh EVs were registered in Gujarat last year. Emphasizing zero carbon emissions, the CM urged everyone to adopt clean and green energy to help realize the Developed India @2047 vision.

Rajya Sabha MP Shri Govindbhai Dholakia also addressed the gathering, stating that the Gujarat government under CM Patel is advancing PM Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India. “Taking the ‘Make in India’ initiative a step further, world-class products are now being produced under ‘Make in Gujarat’, with Matter’s new bike being a prime example,” he said.

Matter Company’s Founder and Group CEO Shri Mohal Lalbhai expressed his gratitude to the CM, calling the occasion a transformative moment for both the company and the EV ecosystem. He credited the progressive industrial policies of Gujarat for making this achievement possible.
