Bullet Train Project: 70-meter long steel bridge launched over DFCCIL tracks near Vadodara

Vadodara: A steel bridge of 70 m length was successfully launched over the two DFCCIL tracks near Vadodara on 8th April 2025 for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project.

This is the seventh steel bridge completed for the project in Gujarat out of the planned 28 steel bridges for the entire corridor. The construction of these seven steel bridges have utilized over 10,000 metric tons of steel providing a significant boost to the steel industries in India.

This 674 MT steel bridge of 13 m in height and 14 m in width has been fabricated at the workshop in Durgapur, Kolkata and was transported on trailers to the site for installation. The bridge is launched using 49-meter-long launching nose, which weighs around 204 metric tons.

The bridge fabrication utilized approx. 28800 Nos. of Tor-Shear Type High Strength (TTHS) bolts with C5 system painting and elastomeric bearings, all designed for a 100-year lifespan. The steel bridge was assembled at the site at a height of 18 m from the ground on temporary trestles and was pulled with automatic mechanism of 2 number of semi-automatic jacks, each of capacity of 250 ton using mac-alloy bars.

The launching was completed within 12 hours with intermittent blocks on DFCC tracks. These traffic blocks were essential to ensure the safety and precision of the bridge launch, which was carried out in phases to minimize disruption to freight services.
