Surat: Another case of drug trafficking via train has surfaced in Surat. Surat Railway Police seized over 4 kg of marijuana from an unattended school bag found on the Rajkot-Secunderabad Express at Surat Railway Station. A sniffer dog, Drake, alerted the police by barking near the unclaimed bag, prompting an inspection.
The incident occurred during a surprise check by the Railway Police. The black school bag was found abandoned in the corridor between coaches S/09 and S/10 of train no. 22718, which was stationed on platform no. 1. Upon inspection, 4.450 kg of ganja worth ₹44,500 was recovered.
The bag was taken to the Surat Railway Police Station, and a case has been registered against an unknown person under the NDPS Act. Preliminary findings suggest the narcotics may have been smuggled from a foreign country and abandoned out of fear of being caught. Further investigation is underway to trace the culprits.
