Ahmedabad: A speeding dumper truck collided with a motorcycle on SP Ring Road near the Shilaj-Bopal flyover on Friday night, killing the 25-year-old motorist on the spot. The victim, Umang Patel, a resident of Ambli village, was on his way home after picking up dinner from his sister’s house in Shilaj when the tragic incident occurred.
An FIR was filed by Umang’s father, Bharat Patel, a 58-year-old plumber. Bharat told the Bopal police that Umang, his only son, was riding his motorcycle towards Bopal when the dumper, allegedly driven recklessly, struck him from behind. Umang worked as a peon at a private school on Sindhu Bhavan Road.
Bharat and his wife were at home when they got the call about the accident. Umang suffered serious injuries to his face and right hand and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the eyewitnesses and locals had nabbed the dumper driver, Govind Solanki, at the scene before handing him over to the police. Bopal police have arrested Solanki and registered a case of death caused by negligent driving under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. DeshGujarat
