Church on school campus in Tapi village sparks row

Tapi: Another incident has come to light in a remote area of Tapi, once again flaring up the issue of religious conversion in the tribal belt. A new controversy has emerged over the construction of a church on the premises of a government school in Haripura — the native village of Vyara MLA Mohan Konkani from the BJP.

A religious controversy has resurfaced in Haripura village of Dolvan taluka, where a government primary school and a church are located on the same campus. Notably, this issue had previously sparked debate when storyteller Morari Bapu raised concerns about it. At that time, the construction of a church within the school premises drew strong reactions. Multiple arguments have since emerged regarding the church’s construction. However, local leaders claim that the church was built first and the school was constructed later. Meanwhile, Hindu organizations are demanding a thorough investigation.

Amid this, a high-level team — including officials from the education and police departments — has launched an investigation. According to the school principal, the land originally belonged to the church, and the school was later built on a village plot.

However, questions are now being raised as to why the education department remained unaware of the issue for so long. DeshGujarat
