GSRTC to introduce Caravan service; ₹5 crore budget approved: Report

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) is set to introduce high-end caravan or vanity van services.

According to a news report, in a bid to significantly upgrade GSRTC’s offerings, Volvo services are already in place, and now plans are underway to launch luxury caravans to tap into an emerging market segment.

The initiative targets group-traveling tourists, especially affluent ones willing to pay for premium experiences. These services are also in demand by film crews, corporate groups, and government VVIPs who require mobile green rooms during high-profile events. The planned caravans will be equipped with facilities like seating areas, sleeping arrangements, refreshments, and even small conference rooms.

It is also noteworthy that Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, had held discussions with the concerned departmental officers regarding GSRTC’s premium bus and caravan services two weeks ago.

The state has approved an initial budget of ₹5 crore for the procurement of 10 caravans, modeled after international standards, allowing families to travel together comfortably.

It is learnt that GSRTC will handle acquisition and maintenance, while the tourism department will manage operations. A tender will soon be floated to finalize specifications and the number of vehicles, with each unit expected to cost between ₹50 lakh and ₹2 crore. DeshGujarat
