Gandhinagar: Western Railway on Sunday permanently added four additional AC Chair Car coaches to the Mumbai Central–Gandhinagar Capital–Mumbai Central Vande Bharat Express, increasing the number of coaches from 16 to 20. Aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and meeting growing demand, this addition makes the semi-high-speed train the longest of its kind in the Western Railway division.
According to Vinit Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the extra coaches have been added to expand seating capacity for passengers. With the inclusion of these coaches, more than 300 additional seats are now available, boosting the overall capacity of the train, which is known for its high-speed connectivity between Mumbai and Gandhinagar Capital. The move is expected to increase annual passenger capacity by over 85,000, ensuring a more comfortable and accessible travel experience.
According to Western Railway, the first 20-coach train ran from Gandhinagar to Mumbai with 2,162 passengers—22% more than the official capacity. Previously, the train operated with 16 coaches, including 2 Executive Chair Cars and 14 AC Chair Cars. With the latest addition, the train now has 20 coaches, increasing seating capacity from 1,128 to 1,440, allowing more passengers to travel with ease. DeshGujarat
