Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad City Crime Branch Police have busted a gang involved in obtaining Indian passports for illegal Bangladeshi immigrants using forged documents. The Crime Branch team nabbed a Bangladeshi woman who had obtained a passport using fraudulent documents. It is learned that four suspected co-conspirators involved in this gang are being interrogated by the police. Additionally, two more passports have been identified as fraudulently obtained. According to reports, the police will now verify over 500 suspicious passports, which might have been acquired using a similar modus operandi by agents and groups.

It is noteworthy that in a major crackdown against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, the Gujarat Police had detained 6,500 suspected illegal immigrants across the state. In Ahmedabad, over 800 such individuals were nabbed, and a mega demolition drive was carried out in the Chandola Talav area against the illegal encroachments made by these immigrants. During that operation, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation razed around 4,000 unauthorized structures, freeing about 1.5 lakh square meters of government land. DeshGujarat
