Flight operations resume normally at all 8 Gujarat airports that were shut due to NOTAM

Rajkot: All eight airports in Gujarat that had suspended civilian flight operations due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan have now resumed normal services. Airlines began operating flights as usual on Tuesday after receiving clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The airports in Bhuj, Kandla, Keshod, Jamnagar, Naliya (AFS), Mundra, Hirasar (Rajkot), and Porbandar were closed following a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) issued by the DGCA amid heightened border security concerns. These airports were among 32 across the country where civilian flights were temporarily halted following the Indian Armed Forces’ Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

Initially, the NOTAM affected 24 airports—including seven in Gujarat—from May 7 to 10, but it was later extended until May 15, with Naliya Airport also added to the list. However, following a ceasefire understanding between India and Pakistan, the Airports Authority of India lifted the NOTAM on Monday, allowing flights to resume.

Despite the clearance, some airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, cancelled flights scheduled for May 13 from Bhuj, Jamnagar, and Rajkot, due to reported drone sightings along the border on Monday night. As no untoward incidents were reported overnight, flight operations across all eight airports in Gujarat have fully resumed from Tuesday.

The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, carrying out precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam attack.
