Gujarat GST Dept searches uncover ₹1.48 crore tax evasion in readymade garments sector

Ahmedabad: In a major crackdown on tax evasion in the B2C sector, the Gujarat State GST Department carried out searches on 15 taxpayers involved in the readymade garments trade across Mahesana, Palanpur, and Ahmedabad. After these searches, tax evasion of ₹1.48 crore has been uncovered.
In an official statement, the state GST department said, “In a proactive move to address the growing concern of sales without invoices and underreporting of tax liabilities in the B2C sector by registering under Composition scheme, the State GST Department conducted searches on 21st May 2025 on 15 taxpayers located in Mahesana, Palanpur and Ahmedabad, engaged in the trading of Readymade Garments.”
“During these searches, the department uncovered several irregularities, such as concealed sales and deliberate underreporting of taxable transactions to avail benefits under Composition scheme. Preliminary assessments indicate that the total tax evasion involved is approximately Rs. 1.48 crore,” the statement added.
This operation is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to curb tax evasion in the B2C sector, ensuring that all sales are accurately reported, and taxes are duly paid. The Gujarat State Tax Department has initiated appropriate legal action to recover the evaded taxes and secure the government’s revenue.
