AMC disqualifies AIMIM corporator for flouting two-child rule
June 24, 2025
Ahmedabad: Mohammad Zuber Abdul Majeed Khan Pathan, a corporator from the Maktampura ward representing the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has been disqualified by the municipal commissioner for violating the two-child policy applicable to elected representatives.
Pathan, who was elected during the 2021 Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections, had declared in his nomination affidavit that he had two children. However, the AMC later received a birth certificate dated October 29, 2024, indicating the birth of a third child after the election, making him ineligible to continue in office under the law that bars individuals with more than two children from holding municipal positions.
After several notices to which Pathan did not respond, and a subsequent verification with the Registrar of Births and Deaths confirming the birth of his third child, the Municipal Commissioner officially disqualified him, following which Pathan submitted his resignation. DeshGujarat
