Gandhinagar: On the day of his retirement from the Indian Police Service (IPS), it is learnt that the Director General of Police in Gujarat, IPS Vikas Sahay, has been given six-month extension in service by the state government. Sahay’s term will now end on the last day of this calendar year instead of  30th June.

June 1965 born Vikas Sahay joined the IPS cadre in August 1989. He was appointed as DGP of Gujarat (State Police chief) in March 2023.

In the rank of seniority, Dr. Shamsher Singh (Central government deputation in Border Security Force, to retire in March 2026), Manoj Agarwal (controversial cop who hunt headlines and faced transfer for alleged corruption when he was Rajkot police commissioner, to retire in September 2025), Dr. KLN Rao (DGP Prisons, to retire in October 2027), Rajnish Rai (suspended controversial IPS, to retire in September 2025), Gyanender Singh Malik (city police commissioner of Ahmedabad, to retire in November 2028), Neerja Gotru (Police Recruitment Board, to retire in November 2029), Manoj Shashidhar (CBI, New Delhi, to retire in November 2030) chronologically.
