Rajkot-Bhuj train service halted; Minister seeks resumption with revised schedule
July 17, 2025
Rajkot: The direct train service connecting Rajkot–Bhuj operated by the Ahmedabad Division has been suspended since June 30. State Cabinet Minister Kunwarji Bawaliya has written to the General Manager of Western Railway, Mumbai, requesting that the service be resumed with revised timings.
In his letter, the Minister highlighted that tourists from across Saurashtra frequently travel to Kutch to visit attractions such as the famous Safed Rann, Smritivan, Ashapura Temple, Narayan Sarovar, Koteshwar Mahadev, and other religious sites, in addition to the region’s long coastline. Many passengers prefer trains over private and State Transport (ST) buses. With limited seats and reservations available in private and ST buses, the Rajkot–Bhuj train had been a crucial, affordable option, especially for women, children, senior citizens, and other travellers. Its suspension has caused disappointment among commuters who now face costlier and less comfortable alternatives.
The Minister suggested that if the train departs from Rajkot and Bhuj between 9 pm and 10 pm, arriving early in the morning, it would help passengers save time and money, increase ridership, and boost freight movement.
A letter detailing these points has been sent to the General Manager in Mumbai and the Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) in Ahmedabad and Rajkot. DeshGujarat
