MG Motor’s Gujarat plant to hit ‘full capacity in 2–3 years’ amid surging EV demand
July 25, 2025
Halol: MG Motor India is witnessing robust demand for its electric vehicles (EVs) and is currently operating near full capacity at its Halol facility in Gujarat. The company plans to scale up production over the next two to three years to cater to growing domestic demand and select export markets.
The automaker’s annual installed capacity stands at around 1.1 lakh units, with critical operations like battery assembly and paint shop already running three shifts. MG is currently rolling out between 6,000 and 7,000 units per month across different models and targets annual production of 72,000 units by calendar year 2025, said Biju Balendran, Deputy Managing Director of JSW MG Motor, speaking to BusinessLine.
While in Chennai for the launch of MG Select, the luxury retail channel of JSW MG Motor, Balendran noted that the Halol plant is expected to reach full capacity in two to three years. “We have prepared detailed plans for capacity expansion and upcoming models to support our next phase of growth,” he said.
While MG holds an overall passenger vehicle market share of around 2%, it enjoys a dominant position in the EV segment with an estimated 38% share. On the export front, MG Motor currently ships vehicles to Bhutan and Nepal and plans to expand to additional international markets.
In addition, MG Motor is working to ease consumer concerns around EV charging infrastructure. Its in-house app, MG eHub, offers real-time updates on public chargers along travel routes, allows users to reserve slots, and facilitates payments. DeshGujarat
