Vadodara MP seeks widening of bridge on NH 48; Gadkari pulls up NHAI officials

Vadodara: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has taken serious note of the ongoing traffic congestion on National Highway 48 near Jambuva, which has been caused by potholes and the deteriorating condition of the Jambuva bridge.

This comes after local MP Dr. Hemang Joshi met with the Union Minister, following traffic jams that lasted three to four consecutive days and left commuters stuck in queues stretching up to 15 km. The bottleneck was triggered by potholes forming on the narrow section of the bridge, which significantly slowed traffic.

Joshi explained that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had already been alerted to the situation and that officials were called to a district coordination committee meeting at the collectorate to discuss urgent repairs. “Some repair work was attempted during breaks in the rain, but it wasn’t enough,” Joshi said. “Today, I raised the issue in Parliament, and during my meeting with the minister, he called up NHAI officials directly, reprimanded them, and instructed them to act immediately.”

Joshi also requested the Union Minister to widen this narrow bridge on the national highway urgently, as it plays a pivotal role in connecting major Gujarat cities with Mumbai.

The Vadodara district collector has also served a notice to local NHAI officials, demanding corrective action. Meanwhile, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s report states that potholes on the service roads of the national highway have been filled and patchwork repairs carried out. After levelling the roads, traffic flow has improved. DeshGujarat
