Another lion death in Gujarat; Decomposed lioness carcass found in Amreli

Amreli: Despite heightened vigilance by the forest department after the recent deaths of lion cubs, another carcass of a big cat has been found in a decomposed state, raising concerns among locals.

Recently, three lion cubs reportedly died of illness in the Jafrabad area, prompting the forest department to step up surveillance. Senior officials rushed to the region, asserting that every lion was being closely monitored to prevent further casualties. However, late on Saturday, the decomposed carcass of an adult lioness was found on the outskirts of Mandardi village, leading to a critical question: if the forest department truly had such strict monitoring in place, how did the death of this lioness go unnoticed for so long?

Local leaders have expressed concern over the repeated deaths of lions in the area. They have urged the forest department to investigate whether a viral outbreak could be responsible for these fatalities. Meanwhile, according to officials, the carcass was sent to the Babarkot animal centre for a post-mortem examination, which confirmed that the lioness died of natural causes. DeshGujarat
