GSPC Merger with Gujarat Gas in Final Stages: Report
August 05, 2025
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government is set to retire the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd (GSPC) brand, nearly five decades after its inception, with the company set to merge with state-run Gujarat Gas Limited (GGL).
According to a news report, the long-awaited amalgamation process involving GSPC group companies and Gujarat Gas is expected to be completed by October 2025. This follows the necessary approvals from both central and state government authorities. The Gujarat government had granted its “in-principle” nod on June 19, 2024, and final approval for the scheme came through in May this year.
As per the approved plan, GSPC, Gujarat State Petronet Ltd (GSPL), and GSPC Energy Ltd (GEL) will be merged into Gujarat Gas Ltd. In addition, the Gas Transmission Business Undertaking will be demerged into a new entity, GSPL Transmission Limited.
GSPC, once India’s second-largest natural gas trading company, has been instrumental in supporting the state’s transition to a gas-based economy. Over the past five years, the company has recorded cumulative revenues exceeding ₹1 lakh crore and a profit after tax (PAT) of over ₹6,500 crore.
Despite its operational growth, GSPL’s market valuation has been dampened by the holding company discount. Post-merger, officials expect a significant boost in valuation, driven by improved synergies with Gujarat Gas. Deshgujarat
