St Xavier’s Loyola makes ₹2 crore FD after FRC directive over excess fee collection

Ahmedabad: St Xavier’s Loyola School in Navrangpura has created a fixed deposit (FD) of ₹2 crore after facing a dispute over charging fees beyond the approved limit.

The school reportedly collected about ₹19,000 more per student than what was sanctioned by the Ahmedabad Zonal Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC) for the 2024–25 academic year. The FRC had lowered the fee for Classes 1 to 8 by nearly ₹19,000, but the school continued to charge ₹39,000 as per its initial proposal, triggering complaints from parents.

In response to the complaints, the FRC ordered the school to refund the excess amount. The school, however, argued that it had appealed the FRC’s decision to the revision committee and therefore continued collecting the higher fee while awaiting the outcome. When the school failed to issue refunds, the District Education Officer (DEO) served a notice, and the FRC subsequently instructed the school to appear in person and deposit the excess collection in the form of an FD.

Acting on the order, the school has now deposited ₹2 crore. If the revision committee upholds the FRC’s directive, the school will be required to return the overcharged amount to parents. DeshGujarat
