Rain lashes Ahmedabad on Saturday afternoon; Ranip tops the chart, Akhbarnagar underpass shut

Ahmedabad: The monsoon that has been in full swing across Gujarat today brought light to moderate rain to the city, with several areas receiving downpours after 1 pm. The highest rainfall recorded between 6 am and 5 pm was in the Ranip area, which received over 2 inches of rainfall, followed by Sardar Nagar with 1.9 inches. Following the rain, the Akhbarnagar underpass was closed at 2 pm and remained shut for traffic as of 5:30 pm.

According to city-wise data provided by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the North Zone—which includes Memnagar, Naroda, Koratpur, Sardar Nagar, and Hanspura—recorded the highest average rainfall, followed by the North West Zone and West Zone. Areas under these zones, including Chandkheda, Usmanpura, Ranip, Vasna, Navrangpura, Motera, Bodakdev, Science City, Thaltej, Memnagar, and several others, received over 1 inch of rain.

With the sudden water inflow of over 1,200 cusecs from Sardar Sarovar, all 24 gates of Vasna Barrage are open and, as of 5 pm, are discharging over 2,500 cusecs of water downstream into the Sabarmati River. DeshGujarat
