6-lane Sardar Patel Ring Road to have 11 new overbridges, 5 foot overbridges, 4 underpasses
August 25, 2025
Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth ₹1,799 crore in Ahmedabad under AUDA. Among these, the foundation stone will be laid for the expansion of the four-lane Sardar Patel Ring Road, connecting six national highways and 11 state highways, into a six-lane road.
The upgraded Ring Road will include 11 new overbridges, 4 underpasses, 2 river bridges, 5 foot overbridges, and footpaths. To prevent waterlogging, drainage arrangements will be made through around 75 nearby ponds and natural streams. The project will be implemented on the HAM model, ensuring its maintenance, safety, and repair for the next 15 years. The Ring Road, which currently handles about one lakh vehicles daily, is a vital connector of six national and 11 state highways.
The Sardar Patel Ring Road was first built in phases. Phase I began in 2002 and was completed in 2006 with two lanes along its 76-km stretch and four lanes for major structures. Phase II, between 2005 and 2007, expanded the existing road into four lanes. Now, under Phase III, the 60-metre-wide, 76-km-long Ring Road will be upgraded to six lanes, strengthening Ahmedabad’s connectivity with North Gujarat, Central Gujarat, and Saurashtra. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate a water project worth ₹27 crore and lay the foundation stone for storm water, water supply, and roadworks. DeshGujarat
