Unjha APMC records 54,410 MT cumin arrivals in 2025

Gandhinagar: Gujarat continues to lead India in cumin and other spice seed exports, contributing nearly 80% of the country’s total trade. The city of Unjha in Mehsana district has strengthened Gujarat’s dominance in the cumin market, supplying both domestic and international buyers.

During the financial year 2024–25, Mehsana district exported cumin and other spice seeds worth around ₹3,995 crore to 101 countries. Major markets included China (25%), Bangladesh (16%), the UAE (10%), the USA (5%), and Morocco (4%).

According to Agmarknet data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Unjha APMC recorded the arrival of 54,410 metric tonnes (MT) of cumin seeds between 15 February and 10 April 2025, marking a 17.5% increase compared to last year’s 46,313 MT.

The robust supply chain has ensured that Unjha remains a key hub of the spice economy, supporting thousands of farmers and traders with employment and business opportunities. As per official forecasts for 2023–24, the region produced 72,100.59 MT of cumin, with Banaskantha contributing 41,800.73 MT and Patan 29,900.09 MT.

Unjha serves as a gateway connecting local farmers to global consumers, highlighting India’s growing influence in the international spice trade. The Gujarat government stated in a press release that this achievement will be highlighted at the upcoming North Gujarat Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC), promoting further growth in the spice sector.
