Vadodara: The city police arrest a 38-year-old woman for allegedly masterminding the incident in which eggs were hurled at a Ganesh procession on August 26. With her arrest, the total number of people held in the case rises to 10.

The accused, Sadeka Sindhi of Khankhah Mohalla in Wadi, is picked up on Monday after her name comes up during the interrogation of her stepson, Junaid Sindhi, who was arrested a day earlier. According to police sources, Sadeka and others had allegedly held a meeting to plan the attack. Initially, three people, including a minor, were detained after an FIR was registered. The probe is later widened, leading to more arrests.

By Sunday night, six additional suspects are taken into custody. On Monday, Sadeka, Junaid, Samir Sheikh alias Bangali, and Anas Qureshi are produced before the court and remanded in police custody till Wednesday. Meanwhile, a rumour of stone-pelting near a Ganpati pandal in Tarsali area on Sunday night keeps the police on high alert. However, DCP (Zone 3) Abhishek Gupta clarifies that a thorough check finds nothing suspicious, though the rumour draws several politicians and community leaders to the spot.

3,000 police personnel to handle security during Ganesh Visarjan

In another development, nearly 3,000 policemen and 1,500 home guards will be on duty during Ganesh idol immersions, with security stepped up to prevent any untoward incident. Police commissioner Narsimha Komar says the immersions begin on Tuesday with the Juni Gadhi Ganpati procession, which draws large crowds and passes through sensitive areas. Ahead of this, police conduct a flag march in these localities on Monday. Security will remain tight throughout the week, especially on Friday when Eid coincides with the final day of Ganesh Chaturthi.

The deployment will include four SPs, 23 DSPs, 109 inspectors, 210 sub-inspectors, and personnel from SRP, SAF, RAF, CRPF, and BSF. DeshGujarat
