Narmada: At 6 pm today, the largest dam in the state, the Sardar Sarovar Dam, crossed its 90% capacity. Considered the lifeline of Gujarat, the dam built on the Narmada River has gross storage of 8,515.6 million cubic metres (MCM), with a designed storage of 9,460 MCM, reaching 90.02% of its Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 138.68 metres.

Heavy rainfall in the Narmada Basin catchment areas, combined with continuous releases from the Indirasagar and Omkareshwar dams in Madhya Pradesh, led to inflows of over 4.5 lakh cusecs, causing the water level to rise rapidly. To manage the situation, the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) opened 15 radial gates to a height of 3.35 metres, releasing 3.9 lakh cusecs into the river downstream and 23,000 cusecs into the canal.

Following a decision by the Flood Control Cell, authorities in Narmada, Vadodara, and Bharuch districts have been advised to take precautionary measures in low-lying areas to prevent any incidents.
