Monsoon session of Gujarat Assembly begins

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government is expected to introduce two key bills on the opening day of the monsoon session of the state assembly, which begins today. The House will also move condolence motions to pay tribute to former chief minister Vijay Rupani, who died in a plane crash in Ahmedabad in June, along with other prominent personalities.

The bills slated for introduction today are the Gujarat Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025 and the Gujarat Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025.

The Jan Vishwas Bill seeks to decriminalise provisions under 11 state laws, replacing imprisonment with monetary penalties for minor compliance violations across various sectors. The legislation covers multiple acts, including the Gujarat Industrial Development Act, Labour Welfare Fund Act, Municipalities Act, APMC Act, Domestic Water Supply Act, Cooperative Societies Act, Town Planning Act, Shops and Establishments Act, and the Electricity Duty Act.

Meanwhile, the GST (Second Amendment) Bill is aimed at aligning state law with the recommendations of the Goods and Services Tax Council, ensuring consistency with both the Central GST Act, 2017, and the Gujarat GST Act, 2017.

In addition, three more bills will be taken up during this session: the Factories (Gujarat Amendment) Bill, 2025 by the Labour, Skill Development and Employment Department, the Gujarat Medical Practitioners (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Gujarat Medical Institutions (Registration and Regulation) (Amendment) Bill, 2025 by the Health and Family Welfare Department.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel is scheduled to move a congratulatory motion on the success of Operation Sindoor. DeshGujarat
