Ahmedabad: Tension gripped the Bapunagar area early this morning after one Razak Alam allegedly broke into the Ramdevpir temple, vandalised idols, and raised religious slogans. According to locals and the temple priest, Razak, allegedly in an inebriated condition, damaged the idol of Ramdevpir Maharaj and toppled a Hanuman idol before shouting “Allahu Akbar” outside the temple premises.
After the incident, nearby residents rushed to the spot, caught Razak, and handed him over to the police. Members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) also reached the Bapunagar police station in large numbers, demanding strict action. Police Inspector S.G. Khambhla confirmed that a complaint was filed by the temple priest and the accused was taken into custody. Initial investigations suggest Razak appeared mentally unstable and was under the influence of alcohol. His family members told police he has been undergoing treatment for mental illness.
Police have registered the priest’s complaint and launched further investigation to ascertain whether the accused, who originally hails from Bihar, was indeed mentally unwell. Meanwhile, locals in the area have expressed anger over the incident, demanding stringent action. DeshGujarat
