300 teachers fined for errors in Gujarat board exam evaluation
September 11, 2025
Surat: The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has penalized nearly 300 teachers for mistakes in evaluating Class 10 and 12 answer sheets during the March 2025 board exams. The fines, ranging from ₹100 to ₹2,000 per teacher, collectively amount to several lakhs of rupees. Notices have been issued directing the teachers to clear the penalties in the coming days.
The Board introduced the penalty system to curb errors in evaluation, with fines starting at ₹100 per mistake and rising with the severity of the lapse. In cases of gross negligence, teachers have faced penalties of up to ₹50,000.
However, recovery of fines remains a challenge. Since 2022, several teachers have failed to pay despite repeated notices. Last year, district education officers were instructed to ensure dues were collected by December 31, but over 100 teachers still defaulted.
