Surat: Gujarat is set to receive its first Amrit Bharat Express, with preparations underway to introduce the superfast express train service before Diwali. According to officials, Indian Railways is finalizing plans to start a non-AC sleeper Amrit Bharat Express from Udhna in Surat.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently held a review meeting on railway development projects in Odisha, after which he stated that Indian Railways has achieved 100% electrification in the state, with 59 Amrit stations under development. Currently, two Amrit Bharat trains are operational, and another is set to be launched soon, connecting Ganjam to Surat.
The Railway Board is reviewing schedules and operational details, with a decision expected soon regarding the train’s starting point and route. The introduction of this service marks a significant upgrade in rail connectivity for the region, fulfilling a long-standing demand from passengers. Migrant workers living in Surat and surrounding areas have welcomed the announcement, expressing hope that the Amrit Bharat Express will improve convenience and travel options.
The Amrit Bharat Express is designed for common passengers, offering enhanced safety, a top speed of 160–180 km/h, and modern amenities even in non-AC sleeper coaches. The train will have a total of 22 coaches, including two for parcels.
Key features include advanced braking systems, upgraded passenger facilities, and improved lighting, marking a milestone for Indian Railways and promising a new era for Gujarat’s rail travelers. DeshGujarat
