PM Modi’s Bhavnagar visit: MoUs worth ₹1.5 lakh crore to be inked

Bhavnagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bhavnagar on Saturday, September 20, to kick off and announce projects worth over ₹1.5 lakh crore related to the maritime sector, including major shipping hubs in Gujarat such as Bhavnagar and Alang.

At a public meeting in the city, Modi will unveil key initiatives under Sagarmala 2.0 valued at ₹75,000 crore, along with a Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme of ₹24,736 crore, a Maritime Development Fund of ₹25,000 crore, and a Shipbuilding Development Scheme worth ₹19,989 crore. He is also likely to announce ₹2,700 crore for water metro projects in Patna, Varanasi, and Kolkata, in addition to a new Bahuda Port with a capacity of 150 million tonnes. Development work on 35,000 acres of salt land for maritime-related industries will also be launched.

Other projects include a ₹300 crore ship repair facility in Varanasi, a ₹200 crore freight village in Varanasi, and a ₹303 crore international cruise terminal at Mumbai’s Indira Dock.

MoUs worth ₹39,867 crore in Gujarat

Several MoUs will be signed in Bhavnagar, including ₹21,500 crore between Visakhapatnam Port, Paradip Port, Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited, and the Odisha government for developing Bahuda Port with a capacity of 150 million tonnes per year. Other agreements include:

  • ₹2,400 crore between GMB and Act Infra Port Ltd for shipbuilding and repair facilities in the Gulf of Kutch

  • ₹6,300 crore between GMB and Chowgule Group for a shipbuilding yard at Chhachi

  • ₹9,000 crore between GMB and Sosiya Integrated Marine Complex Pvt Ltd for a maritime cluster

  • ₹667 crore between GMB and Modest Infrastructure Pvt Ltd for a ship solutions project

Inauguration and foundation-laying of projects worth ₹27,138 crore

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth ₹27,138 crore in Gujarat, including:

  • ₹4,700 crore HP LNG terminal at Chhara Port

  • ₹5,894 crore Acrylics/Oxo-Alcohol project at Gujarat Refinery

  • 400 MW solar project in Surendranagar worth ₹1,500 crore

  • 200 MW solar plant in Patan worth ₹1,050 crore

In Bhavnagar, Modi will inaugurate projects worth ₹584 crore at the Civil Hospital, including an academic block, education building, and MCH block. Other projects include an ₹84 crore 45 MLD sewage treatment plant at Khumbharwada; the ₹134 crore Shastrinagar–Desainagar flyover; a ₹29 crore four-lane road from Khumbharwada Avedha to Dasnala; and ₹46 crore worth of various development works under the Bhavnagar Area Development Authority.
