New Delhi: A vessel docked at Porbandar’s Subhashnagar Jetty caught fire on Monday morning, officials said. The ship, named Haridarshan, owned by Jamnagar-based HRM & Sons, was carrying a cargo of rice and sugar, which suffered heavy damage, but fortunately, no loss of life has been reported. Three fire brigade units were deployed immediately to contain the blaze.
As the fire escalated due to the combustible cargo, authorities decided to tow the vessel into open waters to prevent further damage. The ship was reportedly en route to Bosaso, Somalia, when the incident occurred. At the time of the incident, all 14 crew members on board the ship were safely evacuated.
Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, although the exact cause is still under investigation. The vessel was carrying a large quantity of rice, much of which was destroyed in the fire, while parts of the ship also suffered extensive damage. The vessel’s owner has reportedly incurred substantial financial losses. DeshGujarat
