Hatkeshwar Flyover Demolition Commences with IIT Gandhinagar-Approved Methodology

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has finalized the demolition plan for the Hatkeshwar Flyover. The Rs. 3.90 crore tender has been awarded to Shri Ganesh Construction (SGC), and the work order has been issued. The demolition methodology was meticulously reviewed and approved today by IIT Gandhinagar following a detailed assessment.

Meanwhile, the demolition has officially commenced, with the initial phase involving milling and removal of approximately 8,590 sq. meters of bituminous wearing coat. Following this, the RCC walls on both sides of the cantilever portion on the Khokhra side, measuring around 35 meters, have been dismantled. Additionally, 20 meters of crash barriers on the left side of the road towards Hatkeshwar Crematorium have been removed. Currently, demolition work is underway on the stretch leading to the crematorium, and supporting work near the pier caps connecting the solid slabs of the 33-meter spans is being carried out using sandbags.

Demolition Methodology:
The approved methodology, prepared by SGC and verified by IIT Gandhinagar, includes the following steps:

  • Temporary support systems, such as cribs and trestles, will be installed on the main spans before starting demolition.

  • Crash barriers on both sides of the bridge span will be removed first.

  • Cantilever portions on both sides of the span will be cut into 5.0m x 2.5m segments using diamond cutters and safely removed.

  • Prestress cables in the main box section will be de-stressed in the approved sequence. The box segments will then be cut into 3-meter sections, lifted with heavy-duty hydraulic cranes, and transported safely for dismantling.

  • All demolition activities will be carried out under the strict supervision of the appointed Project Management Consultant to ensure safety and controlled operations.

To safeguard public safety, the affected road will be completely closed to traffic, with alternative routes clearly signposted. Local residents and businesses will be informed, and heavy barricading with green nets will be installed on service roads near the site.

All machinery will be deployed according to the approved methodology, and work will proceed with full safety measures, under the supervision of safety engineers and the project management team. DeshGujarat
