Ahmedabad: The Ministry of Railways has approved the Final Location Survey (FLS) for the doubling of the Chandlodiya – Khodiyar section of the Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway. During the recent visit of Railway Board Member (Infrastructure) Mr. Naveen Gulati to the Ahmedabad Division, the demand for doubling this section was raised, and the Ministry of Railways has given the green light for the Final Location Survey.

This 10-kilometer double line project from Chandlodiya ‘B’ Cabin to Khodiyar will play a crucial role in enhancing the capacity and operational efficiency of the section. The Final Location Survey will include all necessary studies, including alignment, land requirements, and technical assessments, to ensure accurate and effective planning of future structural and infrastructure works. This work will be carried out by the relevant engineering department team.

Operational Importance of the Chandlodiya – Khodiyar Section

The Chandlodiya – Khodiyar section has immense operational importance. This section is located on a vital route connecting Gandhinagar Capital to Rajkot and the North Western Railway (NWR) region. All trains originating from Gandhinagar, heading towards Rajkot, Okha, Porbandar, Bhavnagar, Somnath, and NWR regions such as Jodhpur, Jaipur, Ajmer, etc., pass through this section. Heavy traffic has often posed challenges to the speed and punctuality of trains on this route.

The doubling will increase the capacity of this section, improving passenger and freight train operations. This project will not only ensure the stability and punctuality of train operations but will also contribute to strengthening regional connectivity. Seamless connectivity will be ensured on the route connecting the Saurashtra region to Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat, and further to Delhi/North India. Furthermore, the doubling will reduce congestion on the route, increase the average speed of trains, and facilitate punctuality of services for passengers.

The doubling of the Chandlodiya-Khodiyar section will not only improve operational efficiency but also contribute to the economic development of the region and facilitate freight and passenger transportation.
