Lithium battery burst triggers fire at PG in Ahmedabad; three students suffer burn marks

Ahmedabad: A fire broke out early this morning in a Paying Guest (PG) accommodation on the 11th floor of Savvy Strata apartment building on LJ College Road in the Makarba area of the city. Three youths residing in the PG suffered burn injuries in the incident and were rushed to the hospital.

It has come to light that the students living in the PG are pursuing electrical engineering and had brought lithium batteries for research, which were stored in the house. While the youths were sleeping, one of the batteries burst, causing a fire that quickly spread.

A neighbor of the PG students told the media, “Someone rang the bell of my house, and when I inquired, the three youths were crying and asked me to take them to the hospital. I immediately called the ambulance, police, and fire department. Six to seven ambulances arrived promptly and took them to the hospital.”

A total of nine students live in the PG, but only five were present at the time. Among them, three were injured, sustaining multiple burn marks, and are currently stable in hospital, he added.

The fire brigade received the alert at 3:47 am and dispatched two vehicles from Prahladnagar station. The injured were rescued and shifted to Sola Civil Hospital for treatment. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. DeshGujarat
