Around 9 lakh citizens use AMTS buses for free travel between Dhanteras and Diwali

Ahmedabad: Amdavad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) had announced free travel for all passengers for three days, from Dhanteras to Diwali, and in a positive outcome, nearly 9 lakh citizens benefited from the scheme.

As part of the ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi – Ghar Ghar Swadeshi’ campaign, aimed at boosting the sale of local products and making it easier for citizens to shop during the festive season, AMTS announced free travel for all passengers on October 18 (Dhanteras), October 19 (Kali Chaudas), and October 20 (Diwali). Around 6 lakh citizens availed of the free travel facility on Dhanteras and Kali Chaudas. On Diwali day also, approximately 3 lakh passengers travelled free of charge.

In total, over the three-day period, nearly 9 lakh citizens benefited from this service. Traditionally, AMTS provides free travel only for women on Raksha Bandhan and discounted travel on other occasions.
