IMD issues Red, Orange, and Yellow alerts for heavy to very heavy rain in these parts of Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Incessant rains have been lashing parts of Gujarat for the past two days, and this weather is expected to continue over the next few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its latest forecast, has issued Red, Orange, and Yellow alerts for heavy to very heavy rain, along with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph, till October 31 in several areas of state.

According to the IMD bulletin, during the next 24 hours, a Red alert has been issued for Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu, as these places are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated locations, with chances of extremely heavy rainfall at a few places.

Furthermore, an Orange alert has been issued for Anand, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Junagadh, and Botad for the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain. The rest of the state has been placed under a Yellow alert, as light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph accompanied by rain are likely to occur in these areas.

On October 28, a Yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for Banaskantha, Patan, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Kutch, and Diu, while the remaining districts are under a Yellow warning for light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph accompanied by light to moderate rain.

On October 29, an Orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain is in place for Amreli and Bhavnagar, while Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Botad, and Diu are also under alert for heavy rain.

The remaining districts may witness light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph accompanied by light to moderate rain and have been placed under a Yellow alert.

On October 30, an Orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain is in place for Amreli and Bhavnagar. Additionally, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Botad, and Diu may also receive heavy rain.

Meanwhile, the remaining districts are under a Yellow alert for the likelihood of light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph accompanied by light to moderate rain.

On October 31, an Orange alert for heavy rain has been issued for Surat, Navsari, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Diu, while Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Dang, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Porbandar, Junagadh, and Botad are under a Yellow alert for heavy rain.

Furthermore, the remaining districts have been placed under a Yellow warning as light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph accompanied by light to moderate rain are very likely in these places.

On November 1 and 2, only light rain is expected at isolated places across the state.

The IMD bulletin also stated that a Depression over the east-central Arabian Sea moved north-northeastwards at a speed of 20 kmph during the past six hours and was centered at 5:30 am IST on October 27, 2025, over the same region — near latitude 16.1°N and longitude 66.8°E, about 720 km west-southwest of Mumbai (Maharashtra), 750 km west of Panjim (Goa), 850 km northwest of Aminidivi (Lakshadweep), and about 940 km west-northwest of Mangalore (Karnataka).

It is likely to move northeastwards across the east-central Arabian Sea during the next 24 hours. The trough from the upper-air cyclonic circulation associated with this depression — extending from the east-central Arabian Sea to west Madhya Pradesh across the northeast Arabian Sea and south Gujarat region between 1.5 km and 3.1 km above mean sea level — persists, the IMD added.
