Ukai Dam generates 58.10 crore units of electricity in Monsoon 2025

Surat: Gujarat’s second-largest dam, Ukai, on the Tapi River in South Gujarat, generated electricity worth Rs 464 crore during this monsoon season, which ended last month.

According to authorities, in the monsoon season of 2025, Ukai Dam received 13,891 million cubic meters (MCM) of rainwater in its catchment area. Out of this, 4,166 MCM was stored, while 9,725 MCM was released into the Tapi River. However, the electricity was generated from the water before it eventually flowed into the sea.

The dam authorities generated 581 MC (million units) of electricity, equivalent to 58.10 crore units of power. Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited charges an average of Rs 7–8 per unit of electricity. At this rate, 58.10 crore units correspond to electricity worth approximately Rs 464 crore.

Officials noted that due to post-Diwali rains, water inflow into the dam continued until November 7. However, as the reservoir was at full capacity, the excess water was released immediately. Currently, water inflow into Ukai Dam has stopped. DeshGujarat
